My name is Bill Meador and I am writing a book to help tax staff succeed in a public accounting firm tax department. Since I do not plan to sell this book through a publishing company, I need another way to market the book to the public.
As a result, I have decided to pay independent contractors $20 per book to promote my book online. At the moment, the only thing I need from you is your e-mail address so that I know you are interested in earning the income. But keep reading if you want more details on how to the process works before sending your e-mail address.

Now I understand the first reaction of many accountants to the concept of selling anything. But give me just a minute to ease a few of your concerns and I think you will see that this can work for you.
Issue 1: I’m lousy at sales
That’s fine. There is no need to meet or talk with anyone to promote the book. You could promote the book entirely through social media and never talk to anyone. As long as you follow the guidelines set by whichever option you choose (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, internet forums, etc.), the method you use to advertise the tax preparer book is entirely up to you. In addition, the discount that the buyer will get by using your coupon code (see below) should do the work for you.
For example, you might decide to go on your Facebook, Linkedin or Reddit account and make the following statement.
I like Bill Meador’s new tax preparer book (assuming you did – heh). If you decide to buy his book then I suggest you use my coupon code to get a $15 dollar discount.
You could decide to do nothing else and hope some free cash comes your way or spend time every day. It’s your choice.
Issue 2: I don’t have time
I understand completely. Having been a CPA since 1992, I have been through more tax seasons that I want to remember. But the benefit of this situation is that there is no time requirement as to how much time you spend or when you promote the book. You could promote the book for ten minutes every six months or spend hours every weekend. The choice is up to you.
Issue 3: I am an accounting major, auditor, or I don’t have enough experience in tax to promote the book.
That’s fine. There is no requirement for anyone promoting the book to endorse the book. My expectation is that someone finding out about the book from you will review my website and make their decision about me and the book.
My hope is that any of you that buy the book will like it and say good things about the book to other people. But there is no requirement to endorse the book or have a background in taxation. Therefore, feel free to pass this opportunity along to anyone outside the accounting business that may want to earn some extra cash.
Issue 4: Is there any cost involved?
No.
How much time you spend talking to people or promoting the book online is entirely up to you. If you decide to spend a little cash to market the book that is fine with me. But you will never have a cost from me for this opportunity.
Here is how it works.
When I am ready to publish my tax preparer book I will send an e-mail to the people who have signed up to earn commissions selling the book (see below). Once you get the e-mail, you come to my website to get an affiliate code that is unique to you.
The affiliate code will include a coupon that lets you advertise a $15 discount to encourage people to buy the book through your code. Once you have the coupon code you can promote it through whatever legal means that you deem appropriate (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, talking directly to CPAs, accounting majors, accounting teachers, etc.). If anyone uses your code to buy my book, then you earn a commission from the sale. To be clear, there is no direct cost to you besides your personal time.
Although the amounts might change over time, my current plan is to offer a $15 coupon for this book and a $20 commission to the person whose coupon is used. From my perspective, it seems like an easy way for you to earn some cash with a minimal amount of effort.

Finally, let me be very clear. This list will only be used to inform you when the book is coming out so that you have the option to earn money promoting the book. In addition, signing up for the list does not obligate you in any way to promote the book. Feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment if you have any questions about how the process works.
